Join us at CENTER CENTRE on Saturday, November 15th from 1:00-3:30 pm! In this two & a half hour workshop, friend of the studio, Joe Smith, will share the techniques he uses to design and build compelling forms from slabs of clay.
Students will leave the workshop having created a unique bottle under the guidance of Joe. We will bisque fire, glaze, and glaze fire each piece. They will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after the workshop, and students will be notified by email. This is a beginner friendly workshop best suited to ages 16+. All materials provided.
Joe Smith has been a sculptor for over 35 years, showing nationally and internationally, his work is made from wood, glass, steel, clay, and salvaged materials. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with an MFA in Sculpture, he taught sculpture, including handbuilding in clay, as part of his teaching practice. Lately his work has turned to handbuilding bottles from clay slabs. His techniques are simple and direct with minimal tools or equipment. Mostly it entails understanding the material of clay and its possibilities and limitations. Joe currently lives and works in Vermont.
Refunds are not available, but you can gift your spot to a loved one if something comes up!
